Cassation Court Retries “Douma” Over Cabinet’s Incidents
The Court of Cassation accepted the challenge presented by Ahmed Douma, a political activist, against the life sentence handed down on him over the “Cabinet’s Incidents” case. It instructed his retrial before another circuit.
Journalist Released on Bail of 10000 LE
Red Sea Prosecution ordered the release of Mohammed Al-Sayyed Soliman, a journalist and head of “Al-Masry Al-Youm” office in Red Sea, on bail of EGP 10000, after probing him over a publishing case. The investigation with Soliman lasted for 5 hours. A number of journalists showed solidarity with him.
Soliman referred that he was surprised with the Attorney General of Red Sea Prosecution summoning him after he had published a news story about the prosecution’s approval of unloading a French wheat shipment, after checking it. He was asked, during the investigations, about the sources that gave him the information. However, he refused to give his statements in the investigation as a defendant unless the Journalists’ Syndicate representatives and his lawyers attended the investigations.
Recusal of “Collaborating with Hamas” Judge Adjourned to October 19
Circuit 19 at the criminal court has set the action lodged by Essam Al-Erian, Muslim Brotherhood leader, for the recusal of Circuit 11 (Terrorism) at Cairo Criminal Court, headed by judge Mohammed Sherin Fahmy, and for preventing it from considering the retrial of the deposed president Mohammed Morsi along with other 21 over the case “Collaborating with Hamas” on October 19 for adjudication.
Recusal of “Infection Allowance for Doctors” Judges Deferred to December 7
The Supreme Administrative Court’s 9th Circuit, at the State Council, postponed consideration of the Egyptian Medical Syndicate’s recusal of the court, which reviews the government’s challenge against the ruling of increasing the infection allowance, to December 7.
The Egyptian Medical Syndicate filed an action for the recusal of the court on June 8, after Judge Hasan Al-Borai turned down the case for being embarrassed.
Challenges by Defendants in “Killing Al-Mansoura Judge’s Son” Set on December 14 for Adjudication
Court of Cassation, presided over by judge Omar Berik, scheduled December 14 hearing to adjudicate on the challenges presented by 3 of MB members, who are sentenced to death for being accused of assassinating the son of Mahmoud Al-Sayyed Al-Marli, head of Cairo Appeal Court, in front of his house in Al-Mansoura in September 2014.
Al-Mansoura Criminal Court sentenced 5 defendants to death by hanging, 3 in praesentia, while 2 were in absentia, all of them are members of MB Group, after the court convicted them of murdering (Mohammed), son of Al-Marli, by opening fire on them outside his house.
