Egypt: new comic crimes written by the state security
Blogger in custody, on charges of exploitation of the democratic climate

    Cairo, May 14, 2009

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information expressed that it strongly deplores the continued approach maintained by the State Security organs to fabricate political lawsuits, particularly in the province of Fayoum, to the extent that they created new charges against bloggers, the most recent charge was brought against "Ahmed Mohsen, the famous blogger, who runs the blog "open your eyes- http://eyestillopen.blogspot.com, accusing him of "Exploitation of the democratic climate prevailing in the country to overthrow the regime."

On April 23, 2009, The state security forces broke into the house of blogger Ahmed Mohsen in the city of Fayoum, and searched it, and although they were surprised that the blogger had moved to work in the province of "Minya" since months and had nothing to do with the city of Fayoum ever since, but the officer "Amr Alhumaili" did not want to be regarded as a failure who submitted false information and inquiries to his superiors, so he called the blogger and asked him to come to Fayoum or they would bring him from Minya, the blogger travelled back to Fayoum and headed directly to Fayoum Public Prosecution, and to his surprise, he found himself accused of the following charges:

    • Using the democratic climate prevailing in the country to overthrow the regime.
    • Inciting to overthrow the government.

The blogger was imprisoned on April 29, 2009, for a term of fifteen days pending investigation (in the case No. 4185 State Security).

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information said that "It is normal for a State Security officer to tell lies, but when the Public Prosecution believes this lie and approves to imprison a young blogger for exploitation of the democratic climate, this is black comedy, what democracy did this young man exploit?"

The chapters of the absurd fabricated lawsuit, end up with only one accused "the blogger", as if we are talking about a Superman, who planned and decided to overthrow the government through his blog, although he was in another city several months ago, as though he could change the system with a remote Control!"

"Through this statement, we notify the Minister of Interior that your state security officer "Amr Alhumaili" lied to you and fabricated the record of inquiry against the young blogger, who did not have anything to do with the city of Fayoum several months ago, would the Minister of Interior punished that officer, or he will turn a blind eye on the whole issue and keep silent on the imprisonment of an innocent young man? " said the Arabic Network.
