Blogger & writer Musaad Abu Fagr should be released immediately
Repression is not the best way to solve the problems of the people of Sinai

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information said today that the Egyptian government should immediately release the writer and blogger Musaad Suleiman Hassan, whose alias is «Musaad Abu Fagr» the activist in the movement "Wedna Ne'eish" (i.e We Wanna Live). A movement that is interested in the concerns and problems of the people of Sinai. Abu Fagr was arrested at his home in the city of Ismailia on the morning of Wednesday December 26, 2007. He was sent to the Prosecution office, where it was decided to detain him for 15 days under custody.
The writer, Musaad Abu Fagr who has a blog called "Wedna Ne'iesh" (i.e we wanna live http://wednane3ish.katib.org) is one of the victims of continuous harassment of the security services, which is a usual practice against many families of Sinai because of their continuing struggle to get the people of Sinai all their rights of citizenship in equality with the rest of Egyptian citizens. This is not the first time for Abu Fagr to be detained, as he had been detained last September for several days.
The arrest of Abu Fagr this time, comes as a preventive measure from the government to try to obstruct the sit-in called for by many families of Sinai to demand an end to the actions taken against them by one of the banks that impose difficult conditions on debtors of the people of Sinai.
"It is so unfortunate that the security intimidation stick is the fastest solutions that the Egyptian government resort to against the people of Sinai!! Resorting to repression would mean a failure in dealing with the citizens whose rights are being violated and are feeling disadvantaged and discriminated." said Mina Zekri Program Director of the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information.
The Arabic Network reaffirming its support for the people of Sinai, and their demand for a just settlement of debts, that some unwise government practices led them into, completely denounce the continued detention of blogger and writer "Musaad Abu Fagr" and calling for the authorities to immediately release him.
