Security Forces uses force against Human Rights Organizations
and kidnaps three activists and a journalist Thursday 1st June 2006 20 Human Rights organizations had decided to organize a protest rally in front of Qasr el Nil police station protesting the brutal torture of Mohamed el Sharakawy and Karim El Shaer who were kidnapped on the 25th of May while joining a solidarity rally with Egyptian judges. The human rights delegation could not reach the police station, since it was received by a number of high rank police officers and thousands of riot and plain clothes police. Three human rights activists were kidnapped in the process: Adel El Mashad, member of the Egyptian Association against Torture, Emad Mubarak, director fo the institution for freedom of thought and _expression and Ayman Ayad, general coordinator of the legal aid association for human rights, in addition to Hossam El Hamalawy, LA Times correspondent in Cairo. The human rights delegation was chased and violently forced out of the Garden City and Qast El Aini area. Hossam El Hamalawy was soon released after smashing his camera. The three activists were also released after being held for two hours in a prison transfer truck in front of the police station. Police officers released them one at a time, put each in a taxi and ordered the taxi driver not to stop before reaching El Esaaf area, close to the central train station. Alphabetically
